Comments about Keith Moon:
The best ever. No discussion. And not a turd like Ulrich.
Keith was without contest a genius and knew how to integrate his raw energy to his virtuoso's skills. He was the essential touch and texture to the Who's masterpieces. Noel Gallagher below is damn right about Keith!
Lars Ulrich doesn't deserve to be in the top 10. He used pro tools. Back when Keith Moon and John Bohnham were around they didn't even have software like pro tools. I can't believe John isn't on this list.
He is the Jimmy Hendrix of the Drum Kit -- Noel Gallagher (Oasis) The guy revolutionized the sound and what the drummer could do, there was no such thing as a "lead" drummer before Keith. A drummer simply kept the beat before, Keith changed the songs.
I've seen Metallica and Rush live, but just listening to The Who studio versions more than surpasses anything enyone else can do.
If there's one drummer that truly embodies rock and roll, someone who was not just a great drummer but the only one who did what he did, and was just as important as anyone in the group he was in, it was Keith Moon. Not technically the best, but the best rock drummer.
1) His skill is unmatched by any others, except for maybe (maybe) Peart and Portnoy 2) He revolutionized drumming into an instrument that added to the song rather than simply a human metronome 3)He's not Lars Ulrich. 'Nuff said.
